This one of a kind pottery vessel is fired in the Obvara method. This technique originated in the Middle Ages to seal low fire pottery. The pot is heated to red hot and dipped into a special "fermented brew" which burns onto the surface of the clay.
Raku is a type of Japanese pottery traditionally used in Japanese tea ceremonies. The pieces are removed from the kiln while still glowing hot and placed in a chamber of combustible material to enhance the cracks in the glaze.
